Benefits of Pipe Marking

Industrial pipe marking is a cost-effective solution for any facility’s complicated pipe network. Pipes that are properly marked deliver critical information where it is needed most, boosting safety and efficiency. Pipe labeling is essential for worker safety since a lack of system understanding might result in injury or death. Four employees were using a cutting torch to dismantle an out-of-service petroleum line on Feb. 29, 2012. It had been almost a year since the pipe had been purged. It had gasses in it, which caused an explosion and a flash fire. All four employees were burnt and sent to the hospital after being scalded. Two of them were discharged within 24 hours, while the other two had to stay in the hospital for a long time. A worker was replacing an O-ring in a line heater when an accident happened. He had closed the valve upstream of the heater but had not closed the downstream valve, which was against practice. The end of the pipe burst off as he was tightening it, striking and killing the worker. At the time, the average pressure in this system was 8,500 psi. A worker was putting an eight-inch steam header back into action following scheduled repair on Sept. 27, 2010. The worker and three colleagues were inspecting the valve placements along the steam header catwalk. When a two-inch, 90-degree elbow suddenly collapsed, 1,000 pressure, 500 to 650 degrees Fahrenheit steam poured upon the first worker. He was admitted to the hospital with second and third-degree burns covering 80% of his body.

Aspects of an Effective Pipe Marker

An excellent pipe label consists of five features in general. Most pipe marking regulations include these elements: The pipe’s contents are color-coded to offer critical information about the threat they pose.Text identifies the contents of the pipe by name and may also include temperature and pressure information (if either presents a hazard). The direction of flow is used to describe whether the content moves in one direction or both directions. Labeling and text size rules make it possible to read and understand labels from a distance.Workers can obtain detailed info they need thanks to label placement. Each of these components works together to create a pipe labeling system that gives employees the information they want.

Increased worker efficiency is a benefit.

In addition to enhancing productivity and lowering costs, pipe marking offers other advantages. Workers can do everyday activities and repairs more efficiently and with fewer mistakes if pipes are properly labeled. They are more at ease in their workplace and are able to:

  • Fill volumetric flasks as well as other containers without referring to charts or binders as you progress from one activity to the next.
  • Reduce the amount of time you spend looking for schematics and technical specifications. Instead, since most of the information required is on the pipes, employees monitor concerns intuitively.
  • The content is at the point of use with a complete marking system, which reduces errors and blunders. Every time, workers know exactly what’s in a pipe. Checkout Pipe cladding malaysia
