Some POS systems come with built-in add-ons, while others are limited to their primary functions.
Various types of point-of-sale systems
There are two types of POS systems: cloud and stand-alone. Cloud POS solutions are increasingly popular among businesses of all kinds, thanks to their lower cost compared to standalone POS systems, especially for those with several locations.
Aside from that, POS systems can be used for general or industry-specific purposes. General POS systems work well in most retail stores, however F&B firms often utilise industry-specific POS systems due to the industry’s distinct workflow from retail.
There are also POS systems that are built locally in Malaysia as well as those that are built elsewhere but have a worldwide appeal.
Although there are several local POS systems, I’ve found them to be on the more expensive end of the spectrum, with less functionality and a lot more difficult to use.
I choose to focus on Cloud POS systems in this post since they are frequently easier to use and more cheap. I’ve also included more non-local POS systems than local ones because I found most local solutions to be expensive, clumsy, and sluggish to develop.
